Artistic Spirit Gallery sells original or visionary art by artists who are driven to produce as a form of self-expression. They have a compulsion to create, sometimes without knowing why and often after life-changing experiences. Circumstances may have dealt them issues with which they continually struggle or are trying to resolve through their work. Often using materials that are readily available, such as mud, wire, stone, and found objects, they narrate their life story. They are outside of mainstream art, even if they are trained, and they often function on the edge of society. Their work can be painful to view, humorous and open to interpretation. It is never boring.
In addition to pieces by long departed anonymous artisans, we feature work by contemporary visionaries such as Jan Boyer, Mark Miller, Stacy Lambert, Ed Larson, Davy Marshall, Casey McGlynn and Jerome Neal.
We are located at the old Naval Base, near the historical Hunley Submarine in the 10 Storehouse Row Building. We are open by chance or appointment. Checks and cash only, we don't accept credit cards. Please call us at 843-579-0149 or email info@artisticspiritgallery.com to set up a visit. Or purchase directly from our website, which has our complete inventory, artist bios and links to related art sites.
